Fishing: an intelligent way to combine a respect for the environment with an age-old
custom.
In the suggestive fishermen's village of San Gregory, in Capo d'Orlando (see map), it's possible to spend an extraordinary vacation
period living in contact with the sea and the fishermen of the area.
The stay provides, in fact, hospitality in the typical small
houses of the fishermen and participation in their fishing activity that takes place
according to the age old tradidions in a surrounding of uncoparable beauty.
The initiative promoted by the Legambiente Nebrodi, in collaboration with the association
of the "Borgo di S. Gregorio", constitutes a positive case of ecological
reconversion of an existing economy activity.
The fishermen of San Gregory (S.Gregorio) have understood that an excessive pressure of
fishing, aboveall done with equipment that damages the environment, alows the destruction
of the resources of the sea and therefore their work. Adhearing to the project "A sea
to love", they have abandoned all types of destructive fishing practices and directed
their professional activity towards the protecion of the reources and the correct
enjoyment of the environment.
A new way to live an
extraordinary experience.
The guests of the
fishermen's village can participate, in the consented period by the norms in force, in the
various phases of a fishing day; for the early-birds, the collection of the nets while
on-board small wooden boats at the first lights of dawn, when the water is calm in the bay
and it is colored under the first rays of the sun: during the day, fishing for
"pettine", small fish of exquisite meat that is only found in the area; for the
night-owls, typical fishing for cuttle-fish by the light of the "lampare"
(trawls with lamps used for night-fishing).
During the course of your stay, guided
visit are planned to the suggestive Eolian Islands, Excursions in the forests of the Nebrodi Park and in the centres of the hinderlands to
discover the surroundings full of artistic and architectural possessions, in which antique
folk traditions of the Nebrodian civilization are still present.

La pesca
turistica: un modo intelligente di coniugare il rispetto dell’ambiente con una
pratica millenaria.
Nel suggestivo borgo marinaro di S. Gregorio, a Capo d’Orlando (vedi piantina), è possibile trascorrere un periodo di
vacanze straordinario vivendo a contatto con il mare e con i pescatori del luogo.
Il soggiorno prevede infatti l’ospitalità nelle
caratteristiche casette dei pescatori e la partecipazione alla loro attività di pesca che
si svolge secondo millenarie tradizioni in un ambiente di incomparabile bellezza.
L’iniziativa promossa da Legambiente Nebrodi, in collaborazione con
l’Associazione Borgo di S.Gregorio, costituisce un caso concreto di riconversione
ecologica di un’attività economica esistente.
I pescatori di S.Gregorio hanno capito che un’eccessiva pressione di pesca, peraltro
esercitata con attrezzi che danneggiano l’ambiente, comporta la distruzione delle
risorse ittiche e quindi del loro lavoro. Aderendo al progetto "Il mare
d’amare", essi abbandoneranno tutte le pratiche di pesca distruttive e
indirizzeranno la loro attività professionale verso la tutela delle risorse e la corretta
fruizione dell’ambiente.
Un modo nuovo per vivere una
straordinaria esperienza.
Gli ospiti del borgo
marinaro potranno partecipare, nei periodi consentiti dalle normative vigenti, alle varie
fasi di una giornata di pesca: per i più mattinieri, il ritiro delle reti a bordo delle
piccole imbarcazioni in legno, alle prime luci dell’alba quando le calme acque della
baia si colorano sotto i primi raggi del sole; nell’arco della giornata la pesca al
"pettine" un piccolo pesce dalle carni pregiatissime e si trova solo nella zona;
per i nottambuli, la tipica pesca dei totani alla luce delle lampare.
Nel corso del soggiorno sono
previste visite guidate nelle suggestive Isole Eolie, escursioni nei boschi del Parco dei Nebrodi e nei centri dell’entroterra alla
scoperta di ambienti ricchi di beni artistici e architettonici, nei quali sono ancora
presenti le antiche tradizioni popolari della civiltà dei Nebrodi
